Top Hatters Outreach Program

Top Hat Ballroom has been teaching competition and social ballroom since 1992. This dance studio offers private and group classes as well as special wedding and cotillion instruction.

Our staff includes

Ms. Patti Troy, Ballroom Director and former Australian representative and Finalist in International Standard & Latin World Championships and in Asian Pacific Ten-Dance Championship; Worldwide championship adjudicator; Fellow NADTA, examiner of all styles; member IDTA-UK;  co-editor of DanceWeek.;  delegate NDCA Board of Governors of the NDCA.


Dr. Charles Zwerling is the owner, a current competitive professional, and pro-am teacher.. Dr. Zwerling is certified instructor in all styles of ballroom as a licentiate member of the North American Dance Teacher Association. He is also co-editor of DanceWeek.; delegate NDCA Board ofGovernors.


Norman and Ella Mae Hooker are the social dance instruction and group class coordinators. Ella Hooker is the Managing Editor of DanceWeek, a national biweekly publication for ballroom dancing. Norman Hooker is the current President of the Raleigh Chapter of USABDA. Both Norman and Ella received their training and competion experience from Arthur Murray Studios in Ohio.

 

The Top Hatters is a division of the Heritage Dance Foundation that offers entertainment to various nursing homes and retirement villages in Wayne County.  The members include:

PROGRAMS


SOCIAL EASE
This program is designed to make you a social dancer and to give you a basic knowledge and the confidence to dance at various social events.
BRONZE
The most popular standard of dancing. The Bronze Level gives you the confidence to feel comfortable on any occasion and the knowledge to compete in various competitions and showcases.
SILVER
The Silver dancer advances to more intricate patterns and learns style, grace, versatility and develops flowing continuity on the dance floor.
GOLD
The Gold dancer can be readily recognized by their advanced style and poise. The self confidence achieved in this level comes from a thorough knowledge of all major ballroom dances. It is the highest standard of dance.

 

GROUP CLASSES

Group classes are offered on a weekly basis where you will be taught different variations as well as time for practice sessions. Periodically we offer special group parties at the studio. This is an excellent way to meet new friends and have an enjoyable evening.
